We all wonder how we can do things better. In September I attended a Entrepreneurs Organization University in Amsterdam and was pleasantly surprised at how big the focus was on engaging employees in a meaningful way.
Employees are more demanding than ever and employers have realised that if they don’t listen and negotiate these demands, their businesses will fail.

At the University, Jen Linn from Delivering Happiness spoke and if you know anything the company, you would understand that they are quite unique. Their whole ‘delivering happiness’ philosophy is something that has ignited CEO, MD’s, Presidents, Celebrities and people from all walks of life.
If you have time, read their blog on their website “12 Things Happy People do Differently” and reflect it back on your life and that of your employees. Are they really happy? How can you make them happier? Does anything manage “happiness” in your organization? Does anyone take the lead on ‘random acts of kindness’? Do you give your team the flexibility to do community service and help those in need? What is your ‘movement’ in your organization?
When she was speaking, she explained how she started out “my parents thought I was going to be a Doctor and when I quit, they played the guilt trip on me reflecting on what my grandparents did to give me the opportunities that I had”.
However, what was most interesting was their story on ‘Delivering Happiness” bus tour across America for Zappos. Zappos as a company is well-documented in its stellar commitment to customer service and their leader Tony Hsieh, is an inspiration to us all. Their investment in ‘delivering happiness’ has clearly paid off. Is it a worthwhile investment for your company? How can you engage your employees more by having a different approach to employee engagement?
